The Purpose of The Trust

To procure and utilize donations and other accruals to the Trust for payment to or on behalf of any one or more of the Beneficiaries* for:

Community development projects

Aimed at job creation, establishment of educational facilities, adult literacy, development of infrastructure within the Community*;

Promotion of Community-based projects

Self-help, poverty alleviation, empowerment, capacity building, provision of training, support or assistance to emerging micro-enterprises (including granting of loans on terms as may be prescribed by the Minister by way of regulation)

Resources

Provision of training, support or assistance to community-based projects.

Charities

Donations to charitable institutions with similar objectives to the SDCT

*DEFINED TERMS IN THE TRUST DEED

Benificiaries are defined in clause 2.5 of the trust deed

Selected by the trustees in their discretion from the ranks of:

  • Historically disadvantaged persons (HDPs)*, provided that the HDPs hail from the LSAs and/or the Community*
  • Any charitable organisation:
    • whose primary objectives shall be carried out for the benefit of HDPs in LSAs* and/or the Community;
    • whose objectives and activities must be similar to those of the SDCT;
    • and in respect of which any decision made by the trustees in the election of a charitable organisation must be made by unanimous decision of the Trustees (clause 7 of the trust deed.

On 3 September 2014, the trustees made the following decisions with regard to:

General

The emphasis of the Trusts should be on creating partnerships and making an impact, not on donations or handouts.

The Trust’s beneficiaries:

  • The trustees note that the operations of the Trusts are aimed at the broader community;
  • RESOLVED that in the future, one of the criteria for any project will be its geographical impact.

The Trust’s objectives:

  • Loans are allowed; a professional social lending institution should be approached to assist.
